Utilising promotional materials is an excellent way to communicate, educate or influence your clients, customers and target audience. The best promotional materials that you can use are leaflets and posters as they can be applied to a wide range of people and can be used in many different ways; however, how do you know if your method of utilising leaflets and posters is the correct method? Could you improve the way in which you deal with these items?

Step One: What are you trying to achieve?

The first step is to work out what it is that you are trying to accomplish; what do you want your audience to think or feel when they read your promotional materials? It’s important that you spend some time considering this question and how you are going to achieve your goal.

Take into consideration multiple meaning and how specific phrases etc could be interpreted by a variety of audiences.

Step Two: Who will see your leaflet or poster?

The next thing that you must take into consideration is who will be viewing your poster, and who would you like to view it? Once you’ve considered these points you can progress as you will understand how you wish for your poster or leaflet to look in order to attract the correct audience; the appearance should also depend upon where your promotional materials will be viewed.

If they’re going to be competing for attention with other promotional materials you’ll have to think outside of the box and take your promotional materials a step further or make them a little brighter.

Step Three: If in doubt; ask for advice!

There are a vast number of specialists and experts in the use of media and advertising; so if you’re having trouble selecting the correct design or layout for your promotional materials you can always ask for the assistance of an expert.  The majority of these individuals will charge for their services or assistance but how do you expect to move forward without sacrificing a little in the process?

Step Four: Be direct; communicate with your audience!

The last step involved communicating with your audience or your clients directly without being forceful; remain subtle and friendly when giving promotional materials. Keep in mind that not all individuals will wish to take promotional materials from you and may feel harassed if you attempt to force the materials on them; think of the customer or individual at all times.
